Canine Carnival at Brigit’s Garden

The majestic surroundings of Brigit’s Garden will provide the venue for a Canine Carnival in aid of MADRA Dog Rescue and Adoption. Dog owners from far and wide are invited to the Galway garden for a celebration of dog ownership. The Celtic themed garden will host this dog day out on Sunday September 11 from 1-6pm.

Throughout the day there will be entertainment for children, adults and dogs with a story-telling session in the Roundhouse with Eddie Lenihan, the dog detective treasure hunt in the woodland, a traditional music session with Sharon Shannon, and the holistic hound workshops encompassing canine nutrition, dog cookie-making, dog care and dog reiki in the Hazel room. There will also be a puppet show, dog balloon modeling, a poetry reading and free veterinary health checks.

The event will commence with a blessing of the dogs and their owners. Dog owners will also be encouraged to place a commemorative message on the wishing tree in memory of pets that have passed away. The afternoon barbecue at the marquee will be followed by a traditional session with world-famous musician and MADRA Patron Sharon Shannon.

Speaking about the event, Sharon encouraged dog owners to support this fun-filled fundraising event. “I’m hoping that the day will be a great success. MADRA do fantastic work for animals and really need your support” she added.

The proceeds from the event will go towards helping MADRA to continue its work with abandoned, neglected, abused and unwanted dogs. MADRA’s running expenses are in excess of 100,000 per annum and the funds raised from this event will help towards the rising cost of food and veterinary care.

A family ticket for 2 adults and 3 children is priced at 20 euros. Adult admission is €6.50 and admission for children over 4 years of age is €4.50. Concessions are available and all dogs go free. Tickets can be purchased online at www.madra.ie or at the MADRA shop in Moycullen, Brigit’s Garden, Petmania and at veterinary surgeries throughout the city and county - for more information log on to www.madra.ie or call Eileen Keleghan on 086 0603646.
